Bio

An accident at 19 left Dave Jacka with high-level quadriplegia. Since then, he’s re-learnt to feed himself, returned to full time work, been a paralympian, married, founded a charity, and become a respected aviator. In 2013, Dave became the first quadriplegic in the world to fly solo around Australia.

Story ideas

  • A Life with a spinal injury – The majority of people who have a spinal cord injury are young males, just like Dave was at 19. He’s lived through the emotional and practical changes that occur following such a severe injury. Dave provides an open candid insight into spinal injury. Life doesn’t end. A quality life is still possible.
  • Benefits of diversity – Diversity is more than just adding variety to the workplace. Diversity adds different skill sets, and different approaches to problems. A life with a disability trains you to see things differently, be a great problem solver and think outside the square.
  • Tackling adventure projects – The planning and execution of a big adventure is a huge challenge. Dave views adventures as projects. Each stage is necessary to get to the final result.
